A Brief History…

Occurring annually every 17th of March, St. Patrick’s Day commemorates the patron saint of Ireland who brought Christianity to the predominantly pagan and druidic Irish people. He was responsible for baptizing thousands of people, ordaining new priests, and helped form hundreds of Christian churches in the region. The celebration takes place on the anniversary of Patrick’s death around 461 AD. As more Irish people crossed the Atlantic, the festivities gained more traction and popularity, and it’s now the holiday that is celebrated in more countries than any other.

But why is the colour green associated with St. Patrick’s Day? The answer is simple. Green is associated with the shamrock, which was popularized by St. Patrick who used it to demonstrate the concept of the Christian Holy Trinity. Moreover, during the Irish Rebellion against the British, the Irish soldiers wore green. So for solidarity’s sake, the colour green has been the colour of the well-celebrated festivity ever since!
